Birthmark

Birthmark is an intimate document of early motherhood lived between two lands. Made in Germany, rooted in Andalusia, the work traces the physical and emotional territory of matrescence: the transformation that comes not just with having a child, but with becoming a mother far from home. Home, here, is not a place but something carnal: a body, a smell, a language. The images move between tenderness and exhaustion, between the private world of a family and the larger inheritance they carry: a lineage of women caring for women, of care passed down across generations and now geographies. Making this work was an act of witnessing and of survival, a way of holding, through the camera, what it means to build a life in a country that is not yours, while remaining, in the body, always somewhere else.
