A Home in Between

The series "A Home in Between" explores life in women's shelters.

The starting point for this work is the current tense political situation. Worldwide, cases of domestic violence against women are on the rise, while protective services are often lacking or insufficient. Women's shelters play a central role here: they offer anonymous protection, ensure basic needs, and enable victims to extricate themselves physically and emotionally from situations of violence.

This project focuses on the time after escape, spent living in the shelter as a suspended state between what has been endured, what is being lived, and what remains open. Daily life is marked by instability, uncertainty, and a temporary existence in a makeshift space. At the same time, this situation restores the capacity to act: distance from the immediate threat, access to support, and the opportunity to shape one's future independently.
