About the project

Lala

This series documents the steady contraction of a human world. Observing my mother, known at home as Lala, battle at 88 years of age her progressive sensory and physical decline, this work examines ageing not as a gentle decline, but as an ebbing and flowing process that gradually undermines the self.

As her horizons shrink to a few rooms, these images question whether this liminal phase is simply waiting for an end, or a continued striving for a life shared with friends. Given that society often allows current frailty to obscure who a person was, my objective is to capture the complete variance of Lala's daily reality. By juxtaposing pain and uncertainty with observable evidence of laughter, feistiness, and pride, this work ensures the complex person behind the physical decay remains visible.
